SPAWD is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Sponsoring a sensor supports the purchase, deployment, and maintenance of early wildfire detection technology; placement location and deployment timing are determined by SPAWD based on risk, access, and community need.

New Nevada Insurance Laws

With new insurance laws no longer covering wildfire damage, many families are suddenly unprotected. Our project strengthens home‑defense and prevention efforts so communities aren’t left vulnerable. Your support directly helps safeguard homes before the next fire hits.

High Disaster Recovery Prices

When homes are hardened and communities prepare before a fire, the cost is a fraction of what families face after losing everything. Giving now helps prevent catastrophic losses later, which protects both homeowners and the broader community budget.

  • Yes. SPAWD is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. After donating, you will receive a confirmation email that can be used as a receipt for your tax records. If you need additional documentation or have questions about tax deductibility, you can contact us at info@spawd.org

  • All donations to SPAWD are reinvested directly into advancing early wildfire detection. Funds support the purchase, deployment, and maintenance of sensor technology, data monitoring, and pilot programs in high-risk areas. This ensures resources are used where they can have the greatest impact in preventing catastrophic wildfires. If you choose to sponsor a sensor, your funds are specifically allocated toward purchasing and deploying an individual wildfire-detection sensor within a high-risk area, with placement determined by SPAWD based on community need and fire risk.

  • Yes! We welcome volunteers who want to get involved with setting up sensors, helping at fundraising events, and supporting other aspects of our work. Volunteering with SPAWD may also qualify for community service hours. If you’re interested, please reach out to us at info@spawd.org for more information.

  • Yes. We share updates on our projects, sensor deployments, and community impact so donors can see how their support is making a difference. We send regular email updates sharing our progress, including sensor deployments and project milestones. Our website calendar is also updated throughout the year with upcoming events and opportunities, in which anyone can become involved.

  • Sensor locations are selected based on wildfire risk, vegetation density, weather patterns, and accessibility. In collaboration with the Incline Fire Department, we prioritize areas with a history of fire activity and regions most vulnerable during red flag conditions. Placement decisions are made in coordination with land managers and community partners when possible. This ensures sensors are deployed where early detection can have the greatest impact.

  • SPAWD focuses on prevention through ultra-early detection rather than responding after a fire has already spread. By identifying the chemical signatures of ignition before flames are visible, our approach provides a critical time advantage for intervention. This proactive model complements existing fire response agencies by giving them earlier, more actionable information. Our goal is to reduce fire size, damage, and risk before emergencies escalate.
