Join Our Adventure
for a Better World

Welcome to our non-profit adventure, where changing the world is as thrilling as a high-flying escapade! Join us as we embark on a quest filled with joy, unity, and a splash of laughter, all while making a positive impact.

Sierra Partnership for Advanced Wildfire Detection (SPAWD) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preventing catastrophic wildfires through earlier, smarter detection. Our mission is to close the critical gap between ignition and response. During high-risk “red flag” conditions marked by dry fuels, strong winds, and likely ignition sources, fires are often detected through call-in reports and detection cameras, which are usually only present in back-country areas.

SPAWD is currently piloting Dryad sensor technology, deploying discreet, puck-sized sensors that are nailed directly to trees and operate for 3–5 years with minimal maintenance. These sensors detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released at the very earliest stages of combustion—often 10–15 minutes before flames are visible. That window is decisive: early alerts can mean the difference between a controllable incident and a fast-moving, destructive wildfire.

Our intention is to build a network of sensors throughout the Tahoe Basin, protecting our community and homes from wildfires. By pairing long-life sensors with real-time monitoring, SPAWD aims to give land managers, fire agencies, and communities the precious minutes they need to act—before small ignitions become unstoppable fires.

As a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all funds we receive are reinvested directly into advancing early wildfire detection in our communities. Your support helps us deploy and maintain sensor technology, expand coverage in high-risk areas, and strengthen rapid response during critical fire-weather conditions.

We welcome donations of any amount. You may also choose to sponsor a sensor for $130, directly helping us place a wildfire-detection sensor in your community. Every contribution, large or small, moves us closer to preventing catastrophic wildfires before they start.
